Stress Management, Meditation and Chanting in Thailand

Bronze Monk, Karma Beach, Koh Samui

I’m Just back from an amazing trip to Thailand and visit a great many number of different sites and wonders.  Not only is it a fast paced city, there are areas where you can find peace and tranquillity even in the midst of the hustle and bustle.  As I took this time out to relax and unwind for Stress Management, I thought it was worth making mention that if you find yourself working too hard for an extended period of time, it’s certainly possible that you can burn yourself out.

I’ll always recommend that while it’s good to challenge and push yourself, you should always make time to power down and recharge.  You don’t have to travel in order to do so.  This can take the form of sleep, meditation or spending time with family and loved ones.  One of my favourite hobbies is to travel, so on this occasion I ventured out to the Land of Smiles as it is often known.

In all honesty, I’m always completely blown away by the people and culture of Thailand, and I will always recommend at least one visit in your life.  I often visit the monasteries and cultural sites, but when I am not there, most of the time I can be found on the beach as I am a bit of a beach bum 😉

Here are some of my favourite mediation and chanting types that I recommend if you are interested in taking an “innercation”. They all can form part of the subconcious mindset programming offered by the Captone Pattern.

Zen Meditation

Zen meditation, is a form of meditation that can be part of Buddhist practice. I have been studying this over the years as I visited Thailand and many of those that practice it usually study under a teacher because this kind of meditation involves certain steps and postures.  The goal is to find a comfortable position, focus on breathing, and mindfully observe one’s thoughts without judgment.

Again, this form of meditation is similar to mindfulness meditation but requires more discipline and practice. People may prefer it if they are seeking both relaxation and a new spiritual path

Breath Awareness Meditation

Breath awareness is a type of mindful meditation that encourages mindful breathing.   You breathe slowly and deeply, counting their breaths or otherwise focusing on their breaths. The goal is to focus only on breathing and to ignore other thoughts that enter the mind.  As a form of mindfulness meditation, breath awareness offers many of the same benefits as mindfulness. Those include reduced anxiety, improved concentration, and greater emotional flexibility.  This

Transcendental Meditation

Transcendental Meditation is a spiritual form of meditation where practitioners remain seated and breathe slowly. The goal is to transcend or rise above the person’s current state of being.  This is also one of my favourite types of meditation practice.

During a meditation session, practitioners focus on a mantra or a repeated word or series of words.  People who practice Transcendental Meditation report both spiritual experiences and heightened mindfulness.

Chanting

A chant is the rhythmic singing or speaking of a few words and/or sounds in a repetitive manner.  It may or may not involve musical notes.  Chanting is known to help you increase your concentration and focus.  Besides reducing depression and enhancing confidence, it also enlightens your mind and helps boost creativity as well as a multitude of other health benefits.

A popular chant the world over is the sound of Om.  It is believed to be the fundamental sound of the universe.  The aim of the chant is to link yourself with the boundless universe and acknowledge that as part of this great universe, you can be anything that you want.  If practiced often you will find that your body begins to work together with your voice you’ll realize that you are not trying to emulate the sound— You become the sound.
